The man responsible for a deadly early-morning crash on Wednesday that killed a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus driver in New York City is said to be the nephew of model Tyson Beckford, the New York Post reports.
According to reports, 23-year-old Dominic Whilby was drinking at a Fashion Week party with his uncle hours before the crash. At about 3:30 a.m. he was booted out of an exclusive nightclub for getting a bit touchy with the female partiers.
"He was bothering other customers," a source told the Post. "He was getting too 'handsy' with other women, acting inappropriately."
After a few hours of wandering around and passing out, he found a delivery truck parked with the keys still inside. He allegedly hopped inside and started driving, crashing into several parked cars as he pulled out. He also ran a red light, striking a bus being driven by 50-year-old William Pena, who had been working with the MTA for 17 years, the Post notes. Pena was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the bus when it jumped the sidewalk and crashed into scaffolding. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Post, Whilby was arrested and taken to Bellevue Hospital. "He admitted he was at a party with models, and he was drinking and he appeared to be drunk or high," said a law-enforcement source. Investigators also drew blood from Whilby after he allegedly refused to take a Breathalyzer test.
Pena had a wife and a teenager daughter. His brother, Alex, called him "the best." "He loved everything. He was a great guy, no trouble, nothing. He was just a great guy in every way you put it. It's a tragedy this had to happen. We're grieving. It takes time. It's just begun," he told the Post.
