If you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks, then you may have missed the ongoing drama between singer and Fast & Furious actor Tyrese Gibson and his ex-wife, Samantha Lee. Now things have gotten a bit spicier as the R&B singer has responded to recent comments she made about their divorce.
During an interview on the Hardly Initiated podcast, Lee insinuated that she wasn’t in the right “emotional state” to make a decision as big as divorce. She proposed that maybe if she had’ve sought advice from “pro-marriage” counselors, her family would still be together. To back track a little, Tyrese and Lee got married back in 2017 and share one child together, daughter Soraya. They announced their divorce in December 2020.
“I was not in any position to make that decision, I was extremely emotionally intoxicated,” she explained.
Lee then went on to stress the importance of having emotionally balanced people in your close circle who could help you better rationalize decisions before you make them and the importance of making fully-informed decisions—specifically as it relates to relationships. Though she said she doesn’t regret the decision to divorce, she’s not closing the door on some form of reconciliation with the “Stay” singer:
“It’s my daughter’s father so I would say this: if we were both going to show up and we were both going to fight for it equally and sacrifice equally—like you know things that I needed, and you know things that he knows he needed—I wasn’t perfect. If we were both willing to fight and we were both willing to do certain things, then yes. No one wants a broken family.”
Well, despite her kind words, Tyrese didn’t respond in kind after getting wind of the interview. In fact, he subsequently took to Instagram Live for 12-minute long rant (which has since been deleted) to express his displeasure over what she said, alleging that she had ulterior motives for going viral and gaining public attention by speaking about their relationship.
“She is loving it. Congratulations, you went viral again over something else that you said ‘cause you trying to build up your YouTube page and get your followers up,” he said, per Vibe. “If you had people in your ear at the time, they must be still in your ear because you still trying to get $20,000 a month for a 5-year-old. You make $160,000 a year on your own. You’re trying to crack the prenup and it’s been three years of it. You’re a narcissist and sociopath.”
Prior this IG Live session, Gibson also labeled his marriage as a “big fucking joke.”
“I felt like my whole marriage was a big fucking joke. Just a transaction. I got married to do it for the rest of my life. I guess it was all a game to her. So it is what it is,” he said as previously reported by The Root.
His marriage may have been a joke but the drama between these two is no laughing matter. Here’s hoping things can ger solved amicably and quickly.
