Film mogul Tyler Perry paid a visit to The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss his latest film, For Colored Girls. Perry opened up to Oprah, discussing the years of abuse and molestation he endured as a child. The 41-year-old New Orleans native said that his father was physically and emotionally abusive, berating him and beating him with vacuum-cleaner cords. Perry said his father hated him and that he "could never understand why." Perry has been more open about the abuse that he suffered because he says that his mother has now passed away. He says that he did not want to hurt her by talking about it publicly before her death. It is truly tragic when victims of child abuse feel that they have to continue to protect those who failed to protect them.
