(The Root) — Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of Malcolm X (aka El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz), was killed in Tijuana, Mexico, Thursday morning. According to the Amsterdam News, he died from injuries sustained after being either shot or thrown off a roof while he was being robbed, but the reports on his cause of death have not been confirmed. He was 29 years old.

Unfortunately, the Shabazz family is no stranger to tragedy, since two of Malcolm Shabazz's grandparents died violently. His grandfather was assassinated in 1965, and his grandmother Betty died of injuries sustained in a fire that Shabazz himself set at age 12.

Upon hearing the news on Twitter, some began speculating that Shabazz's death was the result of a government conspiracy, citing his former arrest by the FBI as evidence. For the most part, people took the opportunity to tweet their condolences.

R.I.P Malcolm Shabazz Much love to you and your fam #Never Forgotten
