(The Root) — Black Twitter is getting pretty good and tired of the media's new obsession with twerking, especially since it seems that nobody cared until Miley Cyrus started attempting to do it.

Twerking isn't just a dance anymore; it's a battleground where cultural appropriation and double standards are razor sharp and aimed at black necks. And on top of it all, there is a layer of fetishism, of voyeurism, that constantly reminds black people of their otherness, as with this ABC article offering a "scientific" look at twerking: What are we?
