If we’re being honest, you have to admire the way the juicy-booty hate-monger throwing back Diet Cokes in the Oval Office like Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 192 always finds a way to twist any tragedy into a reason to validate his racism. According to Donald Trump, the opioid crisis, most crimes and even his male-pattern baldness are caused by Mexicans sneaking across the border coming to slip OxyContin to white women so they can rape them and steal their husbands’ hair follicles.
While this has become par for Trump’s racist course, this latest attempt to politicize a death is particularly detestable. On Tuesday, after hearing about the car accident that resulted in the death of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, Trump pressed pause on Fox & Friends, put down his Egg McMuffin and tweeted this:
To be fair, the Indiana State Police say they believe that the man who hit Jackson and 54-year-old ride-share driver Jeffrey Monroe was in the country illegally. CNN reports that Manuel Orrego-Savala had been deported in 2007 and 2009 before hitting Jackson and Monroe with his F-150 early Sunday morning. The driver and passenger were reportedly outside the car, on the side of the road, because Jackson was feeling ill. Authorities say that Orrego-Savala attempted to flee on foot after giving a false name and was eventually arrested for driving without a license and suspicion of intoxicated driving.
I had no idea Trump had such love in his heart for the young black athletes he previously referred to a “sons of bitches.”
Of course, Trump seized on the opportunity to blame it on the Democrats, illegal immigration and the fact that Mexico refuses to send him a certified money order for his proposed wall where the Night’s Watch will keep out the Hispanic wildlings and not-so-white walkers.
Simple logic dictates that a border wall would stop the flow of people like Orrego-Savala streaming in across the Guatemalan border into Indiana. I know you just went to Google Maps to make sense of that last sentence, but don’t laugh. Trump would tell you that being president does not require a degree in geology. (Wait, geology is the study of maps, right? No, I meant “geometry.” My bad.)
None of this means that the conservatives who contort themselves to blame brown people for everything are racist. That’s not how racism works. However, if they were evil enough to overlook the studies that show that immigrants are less likely than American citizens to commit crimes, that would be racist. Sure, almost every study proves that fact, but you’re forgetting one very important detail:
Facts don’t matter to racists Republicans.
I can’t see why anyone would disagree with Trump’s sound logic. However, if he can cherry-pick isolated incidents of tragedy and use them to justify why America needs to focus on a bigger, more widespread problem, then I’m sure the next time a cop kills an unarmed black person, Trump will surely hop on Twitter to condemn police racism and explain why black lives matter.
That’s what someone who is not racist would do, right?
