A statement defending the decision says that if anyone is "profiteering" from the case, it is the lawyers for the family of Trayvon Martin.
Thursday, Nov. 29, 10: 20 a.m. EST: George Zimmerman steps up fundraising: The Huffington Post reports that he's planning to launch the New George Zimmerman Defense Fund next month. According to attorney Mark O'Mara, the existing fund has raised $140,000 since May but is running a little low. This time around, there's an incentive for donors: thank-you cards individually signed by Zimmerman.
Wednesday, Nov. 28, 11:12 a.m.: Media playing a central role in the case? A writer for the Lawyer Herald says that the media have played a prominent role in the George Zimmerman murder trial, and both the defense and prosecution have taken full advantage of the attention that it's offered, from "flirting with" the issue of whether the accused shooter had racial motivations to editing his 911 call.
Monday, Nov. 26, 11:02 a.m. EST: Defense seeks Trayvon Martin phone data: Lawyers for George Zimmerman, the man charged with second-degree murder in the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin, say that they're trying to obtain data from the unarmed Florida teen's cellphone. Defense attorney Mark O'Mara told the Orlando Sentinel that the investigation by the state has thus far extracted only a portion of the data on the SIM card and SD card of Trayvon's phone. "It looks like there is other information that I should have," O'Mara said.
