Martin said that 30,000 fathers in 2011 lost a child to senseless gun violence.
Wednesday, June 13, 8:44 p.m. EDT: Judge: OK to release statements George Zimmerman made to police: Statements that Zimmerman made to detectives after he fatally shot Trayvon Martin can be released to the public, a judge ruled today. But U.S. Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said that the identities of witnesses who observed the fatal confrontation in February between George Zimmerman and the 17-year-old can stay private, provided the witnesses haven’t been identified previously, the Washington Post reports.
Wednesday, June 13, 8:40 a.m. EDT: Zimmerman worried about his wife being "out in the public eye": "Now that she's being charged with a crime, he's worried about her," George Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, said, adding that his client is concerned because Sheila Zimmerman is now "out in the public eye," after her arrest for perjury and subsequent release, MSNBC reports. O'Mara also said that the prosecution surprised him with Tuesday's arrest, complaining that it fell short of professional courtesy. "I didn't actually get a phone call until after the arrest, and I had asked for one before that," O'Mara said.
Tuesday, June 12, 4:21 p.m. EDT: George Zimmerman's wife arrested for perjury: George Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, was booked into Seminole County Jail Tuesday on one count of perjury, CFN News reports. Deputies arrested the 25-year-old around 3:30 p.m.
Tuesday, June 12, 10:11 a.m. EDT: Florida's task force beings review of "Stand your ground" law: A Florida task force will hold its first public meeting just miles from where 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was killed to examine a state self-defense law being used by George Zimmerman's defense team, the Associated Press reports. Gov. Rick Scott's task force on Citizen Safety and Protection is scheduled to hold the first of several meetings on the "Stand your ground" law at a church today. Monday, June 11, 9 a.m. EDT: Zimmerman gets more donations after return to jail: Lawyers for George Zimmerman, the man accused of fatally gunning down unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin, said that there has been a jump in donations to his defense fund after his return to jail Sunday, the New York Daily News reports. Attorneys also said they'd seek his release in a second bond hearing.
Monday, June 11, 8:45 a.m. EDT: Man with Zimmerman's number bombarded with threats: Junior Alexander Guy, a wastewater-plant worker in Orlando, got his first cellphone last month, only to be bombarded with threatening calls and texts, the Mason County Daily News reports. He realized that T-Mobile had given him Zimmerman's old number — the one he spelled out to a police dispatcher in a 911 call the night he fatally shot Trayvon.
