One of the hardest parts of losing a loved one is sorting through their belongings and reliving cherished memories. Of course, you can also discover unknown secrets that probably should’ve stayed hidden. Actress Tisha Campbell found herself in this position as she recently went through her late father’s possessions.
In a video recently posted to Instagram, the Martin star showed off the very graphic adult film collection she discovered among her father’s belongings. Apparently, her father didn’t want to let go of his DVD player, and the real truth behind his motives has been revealed.
“The last time I was here, I said, ‘Dad, let’s get rid of this. Why do you even have this? Nobody even does DVDs anymore,’” she said. “[He said], ‘Nope, you can not take my DVD player.’ Now we know why, you nasty ass. Look at this.”
As she and family went through the very graphic titles in his collection, they laughed at this unexpected revelation, bringing some much needed levity to what was surely an emotional day.
“Mourning and Memorials are always hard but it’s nice when one can find moments of levity and laughter with the family,” Campbell wrote. “My dad would’ve loved this!!!! Hope this makes someone smile. Love on each other y’all and laugh often. Thank you daddy for helping me appreciate every single moment.”
The comedy and sentiment behind the video was appreciated by Campbell’s followers.
One user was making plans so they wouldn’t find themselves in a similar situation, writing, “See I gotta clear out all my shit before I go because my babies ain’t bout to embarrass me while in Heaven tryna relax with Whitney and nem.”
Another person noted the convenient location of the films, writing, “Right next to the oxygen tank dad wasn’t playn.”
Someone else appreciated how important it is to laugh in these moments, writing, “Man anyone who dont understand this hasnt lost a parent..lol, to be able to laugh in this situation makes you feel like theyre there laughing with you. Im glad she was able to have one more laugh with her father.”
Tisha found out the hard way that our parents are still regular people and we never really know them. It’s one thing to discover that your mom used to have a disco period. It’s quite another to find an entire porn collection and realize your father had some very specific interests.
All joking aside, it’s truly beautiful to see the healing power laughter is having on the actress and her family. Sometimes it’s the only thing that can get you through the pain.
