Beyoncé, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Solange Knowles and Kelly Rowland are collaborating with Essence magazine for Love on Louisiana: An Essence Hometown Heroes Tribute to raise $1 million for people in Baton Rouge, La., after devastating flooding hit the area this summer.
The event has been billed as a holiday dinner as well as an awards ceremony that will honor students and teachers who have helped rebuild the area.
“Louisiana is a special place in my family’s history, and we are committed as a family to never forget the city and the people of Baton Rouge,” said Tina Knowles-Lawson in a statement. “It breaks my heart to see the unimaginable disaster and destruction caused by the flooding and we will stand and support every effort in place to help the people most affected.”
The event will take place at Raising Cane’s River Center on Nov. 20, and the money raised will go to Habitat for Humanity.
“The Essence family has a long and rich history with our state and the Love on Louisiana Tribute which celebrates the strength of our families and students is especially meaningful,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said in a statement. “This is the time of year when families, friends and communities come together. Our people have endured many setbacks over the last several months, but they are resilient and determined to come back stronger. But we cannot do it alone and that is why it is so gratifying to know that you support us and that your hearts are with Louisiana.”
