The Greek protests. Occupy Wall Street. The Arab Spring.
Time magazine unveiled its 2011 Person of the Year today, and everyone involved with the aformentioned protests can now claim they made a magazine cover.
The magazine named "the protester" the winner, beating out finalists Kate Middleton, Admiral William McRaven and Rep. Paul Ryan. This is the first time since 1927 that Time has bestowed the honor on a group and not a single individual. Last year's winner was Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
While many of us could have thought of numerous people we felt deserved the award, the magazine got it right by naming the individuals across the world who still believed in the power of protest and showed how it can bring down a dictator like Muammar Qaddafi and shine light on financial inequalities.
