Tiffany Haddish reveals plenty of personal details in her new book, “I Curse You With Joy,” set for release May 7. In it she discusses her recent legal issues, including her two DUI arrests, her maternal health struggles and her very public love life.
Even though she’s moved on to new romantic adventures, Haddish is still often asked about her highly-publicized relationship with rapper/actor Common.
“The only celebrity I’ve entangled with, it was two years of him chasing me down before I finally was like, ‘Okay, let’s do something’,” she told PEOPLE. “That was top of 2020, but we met at the beginning of 2018, 2017.”
Haddish and Common dated for around a year and a half, eventually splitting up in August 2021. The “Night School” actress told The Washington Post after their breakup, “It wasn’t mutual. It was more him saying, ‘I think this relationship has run its course.’”
Echoing the internet’s long held sentiments that when it comes to relationships, Common is “here for a good time, not a long time,” Haddish explained how she sees his dating patterns now.
“It’s every two years,” she said. “It’s like six to nine months single and then two years on [in a relationship] and then six to nine months single and then two years on. That’s his schedule. That’s his cycle.”
Despite her feelings on her ex’s relationship behavior, Haddish doesn’t seem to hold any ill will toward the “Silo” star, explaining, “There’s a gang of old ass men that’s not famous that’s doing the same thing.”
The “Girls Trip” star has been sober for six months. She also decided to become celibate, stating that, “They went together.” She explained that the alcohol would often lead her to make poor relationship choices, revealing, “I was waking up next to ugly men.”
Of course, being celibate doesn’t mean she’s been sitting at home alone, as the actress/comedian dropped the bomb that she’s “been dating multiple guys. They all know about each other.”
