Thousands of registered supporters will participate in the 23rd Annual Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. As the nation's largest effort to increase awareness around preventing and ending homelessness, participants will join Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Mayor Adrian Fenty, Jermaine Crawford of HBO's The Wire, Fannie Mae President and Chief Executive Officer Michael J. Williams, and other community leaders in a 3K walk that will begin on the National Mall and continue into the surrounding areas. In 2009 the Help the Homeless Program raised $5.8 million and engaged more than 100,000 people throughout the region. Since 1988 the Help the Homeless Walkathon and related efforts have raised $80 million to help thousands in the Washington area who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
