A Florida man was finally captured by authorities after a years-long manhunt for the shooter behind the death of an innocent mother. The bombshell tip was that brought the cops to their suspect...? Just a very popular Chinese social media app.
The video posted by popular crime sleuth @/therealbiggdracco back in December of 2021 with news clippings discussing the alleged murder of 27-year-old Joana Peca. Police say Peca’s boyfriend, Benjamin “Bambi” Williams, met her at a cemetery so he could see his infant son. However, police claim he shot her multiple times in the face while she sat in her car. Police also said the shooting happened while Peca held her 4-month-old baby in her arms and while a 4-year-old sat in the backseat of the vehicle. Police said neither child was harmed.
Authorities launched a manhunt for Williams, describing him as “armed and dangerous.” He was also connected to a series of unrelated killings. The cops offered a $25,000 reward for any information on Willams and his whereabouts.
Tuesday, the St. Petersburg Police Department announced they finally got a tip that brought the three-year search to an end. The department said in a statement they were contacted by a person who came across the TikTok video and recognized Williams, saying he was currently living in Mexico. Detectives then contacted the U.S. Marshals Service and Williams was extradited to the United States.
Williams is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of child abuse. He’s currently being held in Pinellas County Jail without bond.
“Thanks to the dedication of St. Petersburg Police detectives and the invaluable support of the U.S. Marshals and the ATF, a dangerous criminal was captured, bringing justice to the victim’s family. While nothing can restore the life of a beloved daughter and mother to two young children, we hope this offers them some long-overdue peace and closure,” said Anthony Holloway, Chief of St. Petersburg Police.
