Even though we've all had to deal with the recent results of a very intense election, it is almost the holiday season. What better time to cling to our families and other loved ones than now?
Almost Christmas is a much-needed comedic holiday story filled with love, family and hope. This festive flick stars a few of our faves—Danny Glover, Mo'Nique, Omar Epps, Gabrielle Union, Kimberly Elise and more—and doesn't skip on the laughs and family drama.
Writer-director David E. Talbert (Baggage Claim) and producer Will Packer (Ride Along, Think Like a Man series, This Christmas) may have struck gold with this one. It reminds you of Mo'Nique's ridiculous ability to make you laugh until you cry, what family means and how coming together is a much better option than holding on to grudges and arguing—especially during the holidays.
Glover plays the patriarch of the family who wants two things: to perfect his wife's sweet-potato-pie recipe and to get his family to spend five blissful days together under one roof without any bloodshed. Seems simple enough, but if it were that simple, the movie would be over in five minutes!
So take a break from the political fight and gather your beautiful family for some holiday cheer with Almost Christmas. The Root got a chance to sit down with Danny Glover, Mo'Nique, Keri Hilson, DC Young Fly, Gabrielle Union, Omar Epps, J.B. Smoove, Romany Malco, David E. Talbert and Will Packer to discuss the movie, but we took it a step further and played Secret Santa and challenged each cast member to share his or her go-to holiday dish.
