A Baltimore mother is mourning the loss of her son after he was tragically killed during a domestic dispute in their home on Christmas Eve.

Promyss Marcelle, along with her one-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son Jacobi were shot in the early morning hours of December 24. Although Marcelle and her daughter survived the incident, Jacobi died as a result of his injuries at Johns Hopkins Hospital later that day. According to CBS News, the children’s father, 30-year-old Mark Jones, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Charging documents obtained by CBS News allege Jones entered Marcelle’s bedroom around 6 a.m. while she and the children were sleeping and started an argument. The document goes on to say that Jacobi asked his father to leave the room, but Jones took a handgun from a backpack that was in a closet. After loading the gun with bullets, Marcelle says Jones “shot her son and then shot himself.”

In the wake of her son’s murder, Marcelle is doing everything she can to honor his memory, including starting a GuFundMe page to help offset the costs of his burial

“Grieving the loss of my son has been the most unbearable thing I’ve ever had to deal with,” Marcelle wrote on the page. “The agony and pain I feel is something wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.”

While she struggles with her grief after such a tragic loss, Marcelle hopes her story will encourage victims of domestic violence to get the help they need.

“Lord, please protect all these babies out here. If you’re going through a domestic situation and you feel like you can’t leave because that’s the only person you’ve got or whatever, please before you’re **** end up like mine,” she said in a statement from the hospital during her recovery.
