“It’s just exciting, all the time. All the time, it’s like, ‘Oh, I want ice cream cake!’”
Cardi B’s not talking about celebrating her meteoric rise; she’s talking about her growing Bodak baby, who apparently is as demanding and energetic as its mama. The rap phenom attended the Met Gala red carpet in a 30-pound dress by Moschino designer Jeremy Scott, who was also her red-carpet escort, wearing a coordinating pearl-encrusted motorcycle jacket and trousers. (Of course, fiance Offset was also in the house, drippin’ in Versace.)
The inspiration behind Cardi B’s heavily embellished dress? Scott was encouraged to take it a step beyond the evening’s theme to Cardi’s own Catholic roots. “I told Jeremy I wanted to look very Catholic,” she told red-carpet host Liza Koshy.
The result is a new-millennial Afro-Latina Madonna—appropriate for a woman due to have her first child in a few short months. But pregnancy hasn’t slowed Cardi’s beauty roll; aside from her incredible gown, her face was perfection, thanks in part to some fluttery friends we can find right in the drugstore aisle.
The friendly team at Kiss Lashes buzzed in to personally let us know that Cardi’s starry-eyed look came courtesy of Kiss Lash Couture’s new Triple Push-Up Collection in Teddy ($6.99), perfectly applied by makeup artist Erika La Pearl, who detailed how she leveraged these low-priced faves via a press release:
For the red carpet, Erika created an elegant eye look, a black-and-purple cut crease, which she underscored with the new Kiss Lash Couture Triple Push-Up lashes in Teddy. To play up Cardi’s eyes even further, Erika curled her lashes with an eyelash curler, and used Kiss Lash Couture Strip Lash Adhesive in Black along the lash band. “I really wanted to create a beautiful, standout cat eye for Cardi’s first Met Gala, and I loved the way Kiss’ new Triple Push-Up lashes made her eyes look,” says Erika.
We loved it, too, and if there’s any doubt where Cardi’s debut Met Gala look landed her on the biggest night in fashion, one need only ask Jeremy Scott: “There’s a new queen in town, and it’s Cardi B. Get ready, Everybody.”
