Skeletons from Sean “Diddy” Combs’ closet have been coming back to haunt him upon his pending federal sex crime case. The latest scandal stems from newly uncovered details in a nearly decade-old incident resulting in his arrest.
If federal prosecutors want to prove that Combs is a vicious, controlling person, they might be able to cite the June 2015 scuffle between Combs and a UCLA coach? Documents from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office obtained by The Los Angeles Times reveal the incident happened at the Acosta Athletic Training Complex. Allegedly, Combs got into it with coach Sal Alosi after he pulled his son, Justin, from the football field for the whole summer.
Charging documents say after Combs and Alosi exchanged words in the coach’s office, Combs approached him and physically assaulted him, per The Times. The alleged assault left the coach with some minor scratches and a tear in his shirt. However, Combs’ fit of rage allegedly turned toward an intern who suffered scratches on his neck. The charging documents allege Combs grabbed a kettlebell and swung it toward the staff members, per The Times.
Following the debacle, Combs was arrested by campus police and charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count for making threats and one count of battery. The DA’s office declined to prosecute him since no one was injured, the report says. However, Combs later said in a statement he was no longer allowed to attend his son’s football games.
It wasn’t until now that the details of this event were uncovered. Though he escaped charges, the descriptions of his alleged violence don’t help his pending federal case as prosecutors seek to prove he abused his celebrity status to prey on individuals through violence and intimidation.
Diddy’s Federal Sex Crime Case
On Monday, Sept. 16, the 54-year-old rap mogul was arrested in Manhattan by federal authorities, six months after they raided his two homes in Los Angeles and Miami. His indictment was unsealed the following morning, revealing charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and engaging in interstate transportation for prostitution. The allegations against Combs include sexual abuse, physical abuse, bribery and various drug offenses.
The most notable claims stem from his so-called “freak off” sex parties, where prosecutors allege women and men were drugged and forced to perform sexual acts at Combs’ pleasure. He was also accused of using video footage to blackmail the victims into compliance.
In addition to the charges, Combs has been sued over a dozen times by plaintiffs - including Bad Boy signee Casandra “Cassie” Ventura - who came forward with claims of rape, sexual exploitation and sexual assault against the rapper. While many of the suits have been civil, this federal case has Combs facing criminal charges.
He has pleaded not guilty, and was denied bail. His trial is scheduled for May 2025.
