In the shadows of her 2008 sensation I Am … Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé proves she's not afraid of a little experimentation with her newest album. 4. Inspired by past and present R&B wonders, such as DeBarge, Earth, Wind & Fire and Teena Marie, Beyoncé adds a little boost of '80s soul to her characteristic pop-urban musical approach.

With two singles already released, 4 has already garnered acclaim from music critics. Beyoncé’s ballad-heavy fourth album has little in common with Sasha Fierce or B'Day. While 4 boasts a sprinkling of the kinetic, audacious sounds of "Upgrade U" or "Ego," Beyoncé leans towards a softer, more intimate approach with her newest album.

Beyoncé's 4 releases June 28.

Previous recommendation: 'Tha Carter IV.'
