We’ve been hearing a lot about the influence of the billionaire class lately. However, we don’t see think pieces and long features on how Black businesspeople are boosting their communities. “Shark Tank” star Daymond John is looking to change that with Black Entrepreneurs Day. He started the event to help Black businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the initiative has caught on with business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
“We started [Black Entrepreneur’s Day] during COVID when people were upset,” John told The Root. “My team and I were thinking about what we could do to show people they shouldn’t be burning down their own communities, they should be building businesses to empower their communities.”
