Just days after being crowned Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig is currently under fire on social media — and the reason why will make your eyes roll.
The Denmark beauty’s name is being dragged thanks to a recently deleted video of her celebrating her win in New York City. Standing atop the Empire State Building, the beauty queen was seen taking in the Big Apple when she decided to record a TikTok rapping an apropos hit, “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
And while that seems innocent enough, things went left when she rapped Jay-Z’s verse and seemingly said “n***a” with a huge smile. Naturally, once the video began to make its rounds, Theilvig was swiftly dragged for filth for her choice.
“Did she just say what I heard her say?!” wrote one user in the comments section on TikTok in a separated video that captured the controversial moment.
“Excuse me?????????” wrote another.
“As a dane i am literally not in the slightest bit surprised that miss universe posted herself singing the n word like y’all have NOOOO idea how racist denmark is,” noted one user on X/Twitter.
However, there were some people coming to her defense, excusing it as her merely mouthing the word and not actually saying it. Others chalked it up to a cultural difference and credited that to the reason why she may not have understood why saying it was a big no-no in America. Others outright called the backlash uncalled for.
“I don’t see a problem in this one though. She’s singing the song,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“She mouthed it Jay-Z said it,” another wrote in part.
