The MTV Video Music Awards, like others, are highly anticipated each year. We keep a special close eye out to see how our fave black artists are represented during these award shows and thankfully, we weren’t disappointed this year.
Cardi B has the most nominations for the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, with 10 nods. She’s in gender-neutral categories including nominations for best video, song, and artist of the year, among others.
“The Carters” a.k.a. Beyoncé and Jay-Z aren’t too far behind Cardi with eight nominations. They’re nominated for video of the year, best collaboration and best hip-hop single for their song “Apeshit.”
Drake and Childish Gambino are also nominated for seven awards each; Bruno Mars has six nominations, while Khalid and Young Thug each have four.
Other artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, Chloe x Halle, Tee Grizzley, and J. Cole were also nominated.
The VMAs airs on August 20 at 9 p.m. EDT.
