Y’all remember the mansion from Tyler Perry’s 2006 film, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman?” Of course, you do. How could you forget the hideous way Charles McCarter (Steve Harris) treated Helen Simmons-McCarter (Kimberly Elise) — or the sweet revenge that Helen exacted by the film’s conclusion?
Well, it turns out it was once Perry’s home in real life.
On Sunday, the Atlanta-area mansion, purchased by a private entrepreneur in 2018, was recently sold for a second time at Miami-based auction house Platinum Luxury Auctions.
The short video below gives a small tour of the tree-lined estate, complete with a massive swimming pool, a tennis court and a jacuzzi tub that looks like it should be filled with champagne and strawberries.
Not bad if you’re looking for some new digs.
From a Platinum Luxury Auctions press release:
“Perry’s former property is located in Chattahoochee Hills, a small city just 25 mins from downtown Atlanta. He bought the vacant land parcel in 2001 and proceeded to develop the property and custom home, completing the project in 2003. The tri-level residence offers 16,500 sf of living space, with 6 beds, 7 full and 1 half bath. Designed in the style of the grand manors of the European countryside, the property features a central, neatly manicured parcel in the shape of a lengthy rectangle, surrounded by a perimeter of dense, mature landscaping for added privacy.”
Since you’ll probably never get to see the mansion in person, I’ll give you some more details. The primary bedroom suite is nearly 4,000 square feet on two levels. The first level has a “welcome lounge” for guests while the second level has a bathroom and a closet the size of my apartment (probably).
While the house has already been sold, the auction house has not shared how much it went for.
I don’t like to make assumptions, but I have a feeling that a Black person and/or family did not purchase this house. It doesn’t quite have the feeling of a haunted house, but how in the hell could you watch “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and feel comfortable living in that mansion?
