(The Root) — New York's International Center of Photography will examine the legacy of apartheid in South Africa in its forthcoming show "Rise and Fall of Apartheid: Photography and the Bureaucracy of Everyday Life." Curators Okwui Enwezor and Rory Bester have organized an exhibition that, through more than 500 photographs, helps illustrate the menacing rise and triumphant fall of the institutionalized racist practice.
ICP's "Rise and Fall of Apartheid" will feature photography from several contexts, from editorial imagery to social commentary. The exhibit will run from Sept. 14, 2012, to Jan. 6, 2013, at the center's midtown-Manhattan museum.
