Poet-activist-musician Gil Scott-Heron performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival over the weekend. His message to the audience included, "For those of you who bet I would not be here — you lose." Scott-Heron opened his set with "Blue Collar." The famed performer, who has been active for more than 40 years, has been heavily sampled by rappers. He is best known by younger fans for the song "The Corner" by rapper Common, featuring the Last Poets, and recently played the Coachella festival. The revolution will indeed be televised.
