A viral video of students at Deer Creek High School in Oklahoma licking toes is causing quite the stir online. The video appears to show children doing push-ups as they kiss and lick feet — and the internet is losing its mind over it.
The responses on social media have been overwhelmingly negative with many people calling it child abuse.
“Never thought I would see this shit. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH Y’ALL, wrote one social media user.
“WHAT THE FUUUUCK?!!” wrote @qgirl_4.
Deer Creek School District, which is under investigation, issued a statement apologizing for the incident but stating that there had been rampant misinformation about the event.
“We want to stress to our community that much of the information accompanying this video is inaccurate. However, through this specific game, we failed to uphold the dignity of our students and the proud image of our community. We have a responsibility to protect our Antlers and showcase them in a positive light. In regards to this one particular activity, we fell short, and for that, we greatly apologize,” they wrote in a statement obtained by FOX 25.
The district is likely responding to a claim from conservative troll accounts like “Libs of Tik Tok” that said that children were “sucking the toes of adults.” The claim was subsequently boosted by Oklahoma Republican Superintendent Ryan Walters, who re-tweeted Libs of Tik Tok’s post, calling the video “disgusting.”
However, other sources say that’s not at all what went down.
“*NO DEER CREEK FACULTY OR STAFF PARTICIPATED* Twas a student-led fundraiser! As gross as it is…it’s been misrepresented by that
Walters & his ilk, bc they live to gaslight the
out of folk. They’re tryna say it’s students licking the toes of teachers, which is a huge lie,” wrote Oklahoma State Rep. Jacob Rosecrantz.
