Mariah Carey is coming to reality television. And to the E! network, at that—home of the Kardashians.
The eight-episode docuseries, titled Mariah’s World, will be based on Carey’s upcoming tours in Europe and South Africa and her wedding to her Australian billionaire fiance James Packer, the New York Times reports. It’ll likely air in late summer.
Like a few A-list celebrities before her who have ventured into the realm of reality TV, Carey won’t call it a “reality show” because it’ll show substantive aspects of her life and work.
“I refuse to call it a reality show,” she said during her interview with the Times. “I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am,” she explained. “A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that.”
She says the show will show just glimpses of her two kids with Nick Cannon, since she doesn’t want it to be exploitative.
We’ll see Carey’s quirks, though, like how she communicates with her staff via sign language and other methods because she doesn’t utter a word the day before a live performance.
“She cannot speak the day before a performance,” Jeff Olde, an E! executive, said. “She knows exactly what she wants, but she has to communicate through writing or sign language, and it’s a sort of a joke within her group, because she has to preserve her voice.”
Mariah’s World should be entertaining.
