MTV star Nelson Thomas shared on Instagram that he will need to have his foot amputated approximately one year after a devastating DUI car crash. Thomas, who appeared on the network’s popular show “The Challenge,” shared photos of the crash as well of his injured leg.

The caption read: “March 5th 2023 remains vivid in my memory, a persistent presence in my thoughts. I consciously embrace it as the initiation of a new chapter. Opting for amputation, I am determined to own March 5th and redefine its significance in my life.

“Get ready, amputation world! I’m on my way! I am scheduled for surgery on March 5th, 2024.” A few of the photos he shared in the clip were graphic, revealing a significant gash right above his right ankle—bone and all. Thomas, who is 35 years old, also included an audio conversation he had with his doctor over the montage.

“I had to ask myself what kind of life do I want to live and what kind of quality of life do I want to live?” Thomas is heard saying. “I think I’m at peace with it, and it’s time. I’m ready to move on with my life, and I’m ready to see the other side of the world.”

Friends and fans left thousands of comments supporting Thomas under the post. Last year, the TV personality almost died in a car accident in Austin, Texas after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a bridge. The car was completely totaled and burst into flames while Thomas was still inside.

After police obtained the results from Thomas’ toxicology test, he was arrested for driving under the influence. Court documents that Page Six obtained revealed that Thomas, 34, had “bloodshot, glassy eyes” and confessed that he consumed “2-3 mixed alcoholic drinks” before the accident.
