Two days after one of fashion’s biggest nights, we’re still coming down from our Met Gala 2024 high. Cardi B, Tyla, Colman Domingo and the always fabulous Zendaya were among the stars that did not let us down on the red carpet. We got to the bottom of the people and products that helped these A-listers look their best. Check out some of the Black people and products who made the stars shine on that special night.
The Black People and Products Behind the Hottest Met Gala 2024 Looks
From hair to nails to fashion, Black stylists showed up to help the stars look their best
Ursula Stephen
Stylist to the stars Ursula Stephen was responsible for keeping Zendaya’s tresses in check on the red carpet. She used Living Proof Binding + Texture Spray to keep the star’s hair bouncing and behaving all night.
Pat McGrath
South African singer Tyla had a fresh face with the help of products from Pat McGrath, including Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation and Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Divine Powder Blush in Paradise Venus.
Pat McGrath
Doja Cat’s red carpet outfit might not have made your best dressed list. But without question, her makeup was on point. Pat McGrath Mothership X: Moonlit Seduction Palette was used to create her serious smoky eye.
Kenya Alexis
Makeup artist Kenya Alexis is responsible for Keke Palmer’s flawless face at this year’s Met Gala. She created the look with a collection of MILK products, including the Hydro Grip Primer and Matte Bronzer in Blaze. “I’m obsessed with how this golden glam came out,” Alexis captioned an Instagram post of Palmer’s look. We are too.
Law Roach
A red carpet is not a red carpet until Law Roach comes through. And he helped Zendaya slay with not one but two amazing looks on the hottest fashion night of the year.
Tai Simon
Stylist Tai Simon helped Da’Vine Joy Randolph create a Rapunzel-inspired look for the Met Gala. On Instagram, she gave a special shout out to Wella for products that let her transform her color while keeping her hair safe.
“Thanks to @wellahairusa Koleston Perfect & Ultimate Repair lines I was able to not only create this custom ginger perfection but also keep its luster, shine & bonds intact in the process,” she wrote.
Temeka Jackson
Storm Reid, Lil Nas X and Taraji P Henson all have nail artist Temeka Jackson to thank for giving them stunning nails for the Met Gala. Jackson created Lil Nas X’s look with OPI products, including the GelColor Stay Strong Base Coat, GelColor in “Go Big or Go Chrome” and GelColor Stay Shiny Top Coat along with plenty of blinged out accessories.
Tym Wallace
Hair stylist Tym Wallace used products from Taraji P. Henson’s own TPH by Taraji line, including the TPH So Lengthy Strengthening & Lengthening Shampoo, New Levelz Strengthening & Lengthening Conditioner and Slick Edge Control for her red carpet look. The style was finished with custom hair jewelry made with Swarovski crystals. In a May 7 Instagram post, Wallace wrote that Henson’s look, which he started preparing a week before the big night, was inspired by legendary artists Diana Ross and Minnie Riperton.
Coca Michelle
Nail artist Coca Michelle did her thing on Cardi B’s nails, creating a look she said was inspired by the “look of a rose stem’s thorn.” In a May 7 Instagram post, Michelle shared the OPI GelColor combo she used to create the design, including “Spice Up Your Life” and “Samoan Sand” for the base and “Is That A Spear In Your Pocket?” and “AmazON AmazOFF” for the tips.
Sheika Daley
Lancôme makeup artist Sheika Daley helped model Anok Yai achieve a red carpet-worthy beat.
Danessa Myricks
Makeup artist Jamie Richmond used Danessa Myricks Beauty products, including the Yummy Skin Serum Skin Tint, Vision Cream Cover concealer and Colorfix Liquid Metal in Lilac Flame to help actor Colman Domingo get ready for his close up.
“Tonight’s look is sexy and romantic, harnessing the dark nuisance of the “Sleeping Beauties.” Colman really wanted to honor men who came before him with his look tonight,” Richmond said in statement shared with The Root.
Rose Hackle
Nail artist Rose Hackle created a nature-inspired nail look for actress Cynthia Erivo using OPI products and items from the environment. “For Cynthia we used dried beetles and succulents for two nails, and rose petals with gold flakes on the remaining,” she says in a May 7 Instagram post.
Nikki Nelms
For the third year in a row, hair MacGyver Nikki Nelms worked her magic on tennis star Venus Williams for the big night. She used an assortment of Maui Moisture products, including the Curl + Quench Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie and Frizz-Free + Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Mist to create the beautiful bouffant.
