Y'all thought I forgot about the top Hip Hop Videos with Black Greeks list, didn't you? Yeah, well I sorta did. But never fear, the list is here! We left off with our number six video and now we're going to roll from number five to our top pick. So as we continue on, our #5 Hip Hop Video with Black Greeks is…
Biz Markie's Just A Friend. Aw man, the Biz was the biz back in the day. The Biz was like your goofy friend who got a little too full at the party, but had his own dance which made everyone crack up. In Just A Friend, Biz dresses up as either Mozart or Beethoven (I never could figure out which), exuded pathos in his lyrics, while making the act of singing off key something that would be imitated 'til this day. And near the end, the Kappas step and twirl their canes as Biz struts. So without further ado…
When it comes for our #4 Hip Hop Video with Black Greeks, I had to go with Mr. Que Dog himself, Shaquille O'Neal, who joined the Fu-Schnickens under the confusing pseudonym of…Shaq Fu. I would never have guessed it was Shaq. Anyway, Shaq and the Fu's gave us the classic, What's Up Doc? (Can We Rock), where I think we can honestly say that Shaq was actually GOOD!
Shaq has done a lot to put black Greekdom in the public spotlight. I think we have Shaq Daddy to thank for popularizing the throwing of the "hooks" at sporting events, which lead to some awkward moments when some nine year old white kid wearing a Magic, Lakers, Heat, Suns, Cavs and now Celtics jersey, thinks it's cool to do it too. Uh, not so much. By the way, I always wondered if Chip Fu can get playoff tickets from Shaq or is Shaq like Chip Who? I guess we'll never know. But here's Shaq in our #4 video…
Our #3 Hip Hop Video with Black Greeks can still be found bumping in my black Jeep while I'm rolling down Crenshaw. Yeah, I know I'm dating myself, but the Lords of the Underground's Here Come The Lords is still the beat. The black Greek connection is that DoItAll (Dupree) is an Alpha. And that meant Here Come The Lords became the Alpha anthem at every party. Oh, and here's some fun wikipedia facts about DoItAll…Did you know that he's appeared on The Sopranos, OZ, Law & Order, and starred in an off Broadway show? Turn your iPod up to eleven for…
The #2 and #1 Hip Hop Videos are smashed together because they're different songs by the same artist, Chubb Rock. Why did I pick these two videos? Because there's hella stepping in them! The Chubbster was one of the first hip hop artists to realize that 'hey, if I put black Greeks in my videos, they'll call into the televisions stations and request my song. Genius, I tells ya!" And genius it was. The #2 video is Treat 'Em Right, while the #1 video is Just The Two of Us. Why one over the other? Oh, I don't know. They're basically 1a and 1b, but I think Just The Two of Us is the funkier joint. Plus it reminds of a fun time of black Greek picnics… So here you go, the TOP TWO HIP HOP VIDEOS WITH BLACK GREEKS…
