Fresh from our "Irony" file, EURweb is reporting that violence broke out during a George Clinton concert in Cleveland. The concert was being held as part of a "Unity in the Park" event. It is not clear what prompted the violence, but a gunman fatally shot a 16-year-old boy in the head and injured three others. A 20-year-old woman was shot in the neck, while a 14-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were injured in the legs. They were all taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, but the 16-year-old died at the scene.

There are conflicting reports about whether the shootings took place at the concert or near the concert, but they occurred in the Luke Easter Park, where the concert was being held.

EURweb reports that Police Sergeant Sammy Morris said, "It was a large fight. Somebody in the crowd produced a handgun and fired several times."

Seriously? Shooting at or near a George Clinton concert, and at a "Unity in the Park" event at that? It is impossible to go out and have a good time these days without the very real threat of senseless violence. George Clinton is about funk, nothing but the funk and having a good time, in that order. To think that knuckleheads would ruin that opportunity for so many people — not to mention the spirit of the event — is ridiculous. Now a teenager is dead and others are injured. When will the violence end?
