Police have taken 44-year-old Germaine Moore into custody after he apparently turned himself in to officers who had enlisted the public’s help in locating him.
Moore, who is from Millbrook, Ala., is facing 11 counts related to a criminal sexual-conduct investigation involving a minor under 13. Police believe that he is the one who sexually assaulted a young girl in a video that went viral on social media, WSFA-TV reports.
Authorities attempted to serve a warrant at Moore’s home Monday afternoon, combing through the home and waiting hours for Moore to return. However, he never did, and at 6 p.m., his fiancee was taken into custody.
Investigators say that the unidentified fiancee refused to cooperate with police and was ultimately charged with interfering with prosecution.
“Without her being cooperative and making sure Germaine was in custody safely and that all of Alabama’s children and children across the United States are safe, then we’re definitely going to sit down and talk with her and find out why she has decided not to cooperate,” Lt. Brooke Walker with the State Bureau of Investigation Special Victims Unit told the station.
The video related to the case, which authorities say depicts the sexual assault of a child, has been circulating through social media. The Montgomery, Ala., Police Department has already arrested and charged another man with possession and dissemination of child pornography in connection with the video, according to the report.
Authorities advise anyone who receives the video to report it through social media and then immediately delete it.
The child in the video has been located by the authorities and is currently safe.
