Suge Knight’s attorney Thomas Mesereau is trying to get Knight’s bail reduced and says a new video will show that the music mogul was being ambushed by armed men prior to the fatal hit-and-run he’s charged in connection with. Mesereau is seeking to have Knight’s $10 million bail reduced on murder and attempted-murder charges Knight received after the hit-and-run that killed Terry Carter and injured Cle Sloan.
“Mr. Sloan was armed, as were others,” Mesereau wrote. “Weapons are visible on the video provided to the court … this video shows [Knight] being viciously attacked and fleeing for his life. "Most significantly, the video discloses one of his attackers brandishing a weapon. When this armed attacker [Sloan] dropped his gun, the video depicts an associate retrieving the weapon and placing it in his waistband.”
In his April testimony, Sloan stated that he did not have a gun, and earlier this week he refused to identify Knight in the courtroom, prompting Mesereau to ask for the case to be dismissed, a request Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen denied.
In an additional motion filed, Mesereau is also seeking private health care for Knight, who suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and complications from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Associated Press.
Coen also stated that it was unlikely that Knight would receive any special medical treatment while behind bars.
Knight returns to court July 17, and at that time, the new video evidence may be shown.
