NBA player Stephen Curry is the man “with the shot,” as rapper Drake aptly noted last year in his hit song “0 to 100/The Catch Up.”
Months after being named the NBA Most Valuable Player for leading the Golden State Warriors to their first title in 40 years, Stephen Curry has received yet another honor.
The point guard was named the Associated Press 2015 Male Athlete of the Year, finishing first in a vote by U.S. editors and news directors in results released Saturday, according to the Associated Press.
The award comes after Curry “dominated on the court and made the once downtrodden Golden State Warriors the NBA’s must-watch team,” the report says.
He joins LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird as the only basketball players to win the honor in the 85 years of the award.
Curry beat out golfer Jordan Spieth and American Pharoah, who became the first horse since 1978 to win the Triple Crown, the report says.
“That’s a real honor,” Curry said, according to the news outlet. “I’m appreciative of that acknowledgment because it’s across all different sports. … It’s pretty cool.”
Yeah, it is pretty cool! Congratulations, Stephen Curry!
