Time may be running out for federal investigators who are investigating police officers who committed crime after Hurricane Katrina. Laura Maggi reports for the Times Picayune that two of the nine ongoing federal investigations of NOPD’s alleged misconduct may run up against an understood five-year statute of limitations. Maggi also reports that the statute would likely affect only two cases, one involving the alleged beating of two men and another non-fatal shooting. Both incidents occurred on Sept. 1, 2005. We hope that federal investigators are paying attention to this statute, because we're sure the attorneys for the police officers certainly are. Let's hope these alleged rogue cops don't get away with murder and mayhem, particularly taken out on helpless people.
