In a discussion about controlling the state's feral-swine problem, Kansas state Rep. Virgil Peck responded to a suggestion that it could be handled by the shooting of pigs from helicopters with this: "It looks like to me if shooting these immigrating feral hogs works, maybe we have found a [solution] to our illegal-immigration problem."
This had to have been whispered behind closed doors around friends who were similarly hostile toward immigrants and entertained by the idea of violence against them, right? Nope. The discussion took place during a House Appropriates Committee meeting.
Well, he at least acknowledged that what he said was inappropriate (even if it was a joke), didn't he? Wrong again. Peck emphasized that his constituents were extremely worried about illegal immigration. Oh, and he said, "I was just speaking like a southeast-Kansas person." If there's a Worst Explanation of the Day Award, Peck is a strong contender for it (not to mention an embarrassment to his part of the state).
