Hoping to prosper off the momentum President Obama created last fall, the Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls for Virginia have been trying to corner the vote that helped the 44th President carry that state.
State Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe and former state delegate Brian Moran have spent the last portion of this sprint to Tuesday going back and forth across the state, making promises and securing endorsements in the hopes of securing the vote of the powerful bloc. According to the Washington Post, their messages range from tackling to childhood obesity to forcing predatory lenders out of Virginia.
Deeds, McAuliffe and Moran have all made appearances within the Black communities; dropping in on pizza parlors, house parties and, perhaps most importantly, Black churches. Each candidate yesterday was in either Richmond or Hampton Roads attending service. Each had to same message: Vote for me and I'll set you free.
