Soul Singer Sharon Jones Dead at 60

Legendary singer Sharon Jones passed away Friday at the age of 60 after battling pancreatic cancer. Jones, who was part of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, was born in North August, South Carolina in 1956, and raised in Brooklyn, NY.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer," the singer's rep wrote in a statement. "She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings."

Jones was first diagnosed with cancer in 2012, but went into remission, and it returned in 2015.

Along with the Dap Kings, Jones released seven albums, with the most recent being 2015's It's a Holiday Soul Party.

Jones and the Dap Kings were the subject of the recent documentary, Miss Sharon Jones!, which covered her health and relationship with her band.
