New York Mayor Eric Adams has been known to say some odd things on social media — but his latest post has him getting dragged in the community notes.

While commenting on the current socio-political struggles in Haiti, Adams made a confusing comparison. “We call New York City the Port-Au-Prince of America,” posted Adam on X. “We feel the pain our Haitian neighbors feel as the situation grows dire. To the people of Haiti and our own Haitian community here in New York City, know that we stand with you today and always.”

The community notes, a function on X that allows users to “fact-check” each other provided some not so subtle shade at the New York Mayor. “Important context: no one other than Eric Adams has called NYC the “Port-Au-Prince of America,” read the note.

In the comments people continued to drag Adams. “I’ve never heard anyone, anywhere, at any time, call NYC the Port-au-Prince of America,” wrote Clifton Duncan.

“Not a single person has ever said that - Haitian & Former New Yorker,” wrote Jason Evans.

“That community note *laughing emoji*” wrote Brendon Leslie.

This isn’t the first time Adams’ comments on the city he’s in charge of received some side-eye. Last year, his comments on why New York is the “greatest city” on the globe made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

“This is a place where everyday you wake up, you could experience everything from a plane crashing into our Trade Center to a person who’s celebrating a new business that’s open. This is a very, very complicated city, and that’s why it’s the greatest city on the globe,” he said in a local news interview.

It’s this kind of rhetoric that New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike have come to expect from the Mayor of one of the most populous and prominent cities on the globe.
