Over the weekend, Snoop Dogg performed at a “Flint Lives Matter” concert in Detroit, but before his show, he made it a point to sit down with Flint, Mich., Mayor Karen Weaver at a water drive to discuss how he can help with the city’s water crisis.

“I’m a busy man,” Snoop said. “I could have been anywhere, but I chose to be here today, and it’s about choices.”

Snoop also spoke about how he wants his celebrity friends to help the city.

“I have a lot of information to take back to my celebrity friends and people around the world who want to help, but mainly we’d like the governor to step up and do what’s necessary to make sure Flint is taken care of,” Snoop said.

Weaver said that the rapper was in it for the long haul and wanted to understand how long the crisis had been going on.

“What I appreciated is he wanted to get a thorough understanding about how long this has been going on and what’s been happening,” Weaver told MLive. “He came and just wanted to sit down and talk about what’s been going on in Flint.”

According to Weaver, Snoop pointed out why he wants to help, even though he doesn’t have ties to Flint.

“Somebody said, ‘Well, you don’t have any ties to Flint; what made you come here?’” Weaver said. “He said, ‘We do have ties. We’re people.’

“What is really nice is that he signed on for the long haul,” Weaver said. “We don’t want attention just now. We’ve needed it for a long time. We have it. The impact is going to follow some of our kids and families for the rest of their lives. We can’t let the attention go away.”
