For reasons no one will ever understand, an intoxicated Ohio dad apparently tried to teach his 9-year-old son how to drive on Sunday (October 6). The result led to Clejuan Williams, 36, of Toledo being hospitalized after the child hit him with the vehicle.
Williams apparently told his son to press down on the breaks while in the driver’s seat. The child was confused and wound up pressing the gas pedal instead, which made the car go backwards and hit a pole across the street.
Subsequent police reports state that Williams was standing inside of the door jam on the driver’s side. When the car began to reverse, he was knocked over before being dragged under the car.
Two children are also seen running out of the car in the video (one from the back and one from the driver’s seat) to help Williams as he lay on the ground. Other kids can be seen, looking on at what just happened. Luckily, none of them were hurt.
WGTV reported that Williams was taken to a local hospital with his current condition remaining unknown. He was charged with wrongful entrustment of a motor vehicle and endangering children.
“It is heartbreaking to see because, as a parent, when you see that happening, you think about how it can be prevented. You don’t want to put them in a position that they are not ready for or mature enough to realize,” Toledo Police Officer Prince Flores explained in a statement.
“As a parent, your job is to make sure that your kids are safe and to make sound decisions, and you want to make sure that you’re putting them in the best possible position to be OK.”
Williams is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on October 13.
