I guess when you’re kinda drunk and have a hankering for home fries, you find a way to make it happen, cap’n.
And that’s exactly what one man did when he arrived at a South Carolina Waffle House and found no one there (except, instead of fries, he made a sandwich).
Alex Bowen said in a Facebook post that he stopped by a Waffle House in West Columbia, S.C., on Thursday because he couldn’t sleep. He saw no one in the restaurant, and walked back outside to his car to look for employees.
“No one in sight,” he told WIS-TV 10.
He said that when he walked back in, he saw an employee dozing in a corner booth.
And that’s when he made his move.
“[I] got hot on the grill with a double Texas bacon cheesesteak with extra pickles. When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled out,” he said.
As for what gave him the cajones to get on the grill, Bowen gave the credit to “my old friend vodka.”
Bowen says that he later came back to pay for the sandwich.
The Waffle House reached out to Bowen to apologize, and the employee who was snapped sleeping was suspended for a week.
“For safety reasons, our customers should never have to go behind the counter,” a statement from the Waffle House read. “Rather they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates. We are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action.”
