Six teenagers drowned in the Red River in northwest Louisiana. Apparently one of the teens stepped off of a ledge and into an 18-foot sinkhole. The others went in to try to rescue the teen, but none of them could swim. Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford told the Shreveport Times that the victims, ages 13 to 18, had drowned while trying to save one another. Only one, a 14-year-old, was rescued. The teens had been attending a barbecue with family and friends. We hate to say it, but where were the parents, and how come no one could swim? Swimming is a life skill, not just a leisure activity. Truly tragic.
