Stripes, spots, suits, sisterhood, and lots and lots of smiles; that’s what “it” girls Chloe and Halle Bailey—better known as Chloe x Halle—are made of for their cover shoot for this month’s issue of Nylon magazine.
Wearing eclectic and embellished ensembles, including pieces from Burberry, Tibi, Ellery, Tessa Matthias and Chanel, our current favorite sister act was captured by celebrity photographer Catie Laffoon against backgrounds of cellophane and neon-tinted fluorescent lights. The only things shining brighter? Their futures—and their beaming faces.
Speaking of faces, the dynamic duo was profiled by a familiar one: former Jezebel senior writer-turned-Grown-ish staff writer Kara Brown, who aptly summed up the evolution of Chloe x Halle from wide-eyed YouTube sensations to ready-for-prime-time Beyoncé protégées. According to Brown, the one thing they haven’t lost along the way is their sweetness:
It’s a sweetness that the cynical among us might suggest is forced or carefully crafted. It’s a sweetness reminiscent of a certain brand of child star, bred and trained to be precocious and overly polite, particularly toward adults. But it doesn’t take long to see their sweetness for what it truly is: earnest excitement, genuine gratitude and honest-to-goodness joy.
The two have a lot to be joyful about these days: Their debut album, The Kids Are Alright, hit the Billboard 200 this week, and their first season of the very successful spinoff Grown-ish ended last week on a high note (#TeamLuca).
In pop-star-worthy colors, locs piled high, and bold eye and lip combinations we can’t wait to imitate (glossy lids, anyone?), Chloe x Halle epitomize everything we’re loving about spring beauty and fashion in 2018.
And with their own self-confessed brand of “yin and yang,” these sisters consistently show us what girl power is all about. We can’t wait to watch them bloom!
