First off: Is this going to be called Sister Act: Joyful Joyful, Lord We Adore 3?

Yes, that’s right, A Sister Act 3 movie is in the works to premiere on Disney+ streaming service, Variety reports. Today, December 10, marks 25 years since the premiere of the popular sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Insecure executive producer Regina Hicks and Star showrunner Karin Gist will be penning the script.

Bad news bears, though: Whoopi doesn’t plan to appear in the third iteration to reprise her role as the unforgettable Deloris, who was told to “get thee to the nunnery” under witness protection after witnessing a mob crime. Um, not so “happy day.” It’s looking like the film will have more of a reboot flavor, since it won’t be an addition to the Whoopi canon.

“It is our understanding that this is not a continuation and Whoopi is not involved,” a representative for Whoopi told Entertainment Weekly. Goldberg also told Good Morning Britain that the streaming network will be going in a “different direction.”

Imagine losing out on the opportunity to pay homage to one of the best plot twists in cinema? Remember the wonderful rising action where a shy Ahmal (Ryan Toby) stumbled into his solo singing “Oh Happy Day,” and then rumbled into his magnum opus moment with that beautiful high note at the grand finale performance? The look on Deloris’ face was all of us. When Jesus washed our wigs away.

Picture it: an unlikely student shows off they could knock out the whistle register and the camera jolts toward a shocked Whoopi. Only, that’s not the only shock of the moment because we had never seen her prior. It would literally serve as her first frame.

You’re welcome, Disney. I take Venmo and Cash App.

No other plot details have been revealed at the moment, but is there really a plot without Whoopi?

Or maybe that’s just what Disney wants us to think. Maybe they are throwing us off and will surprise us with a Whoopi appearance. Goldberg did suggest a walk-through scene at the very least.

“And I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it,” she told Good Morning Britain.

If so, well played in advance, Disney. Well played.
