Simone Biles won gold in the all-around gymnastics competition in Rio de Janeiro Thursday night, but she's not trying to be the "next" anybody when it comes to her own legacy.
Don't compare her to Michael Phelps, or any other gold medal winner, because she's not them. And during her post-win interview, she made it a point to make sure people knew that.
"I've finally done it. It's so exciting," Biles said after her medal ceremony in Rio. "You never know the feeling until it hits you.
"I'm not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I'm the first Simone Biles," she said.
"The floor was my best moment. I'm excited for the other finals now," she continued. "I had to remind myself to keep doing the routines we practiced. I'm so relieved."
Thursday's win was Biles' second gold medal, the first coming when Team USA won the gold Tuesday. Biles could bring home at least three more medals this week in Rio when she competes in the vault, balance beam and floor exercise.
