Should Parents Go to Jail for Missing Parent-Teacher Meetings?

It caused a ruckus when police in localities across the country started arresting parents for their children's truancy, but what about getting sent to jail for missing a parent-teacher conference? Detroit prosecutor Kym Worthy presented a proposal to the City Council last week that would require parents to spend three days in jail if they failed to attend at least one parent-teacher meeting per school year. Here's the sad thing: We can see parents actually taking the jail time over face time with their kids' teachers.
