UNESCO award for Equatorial Guinea's dictator? On Tuesday, a committee is scheduled to decide whether President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, who has been accused of corruption and human rights abuses, will be allowed to sponsor a UNESCO award for life sciences in his own name. The UNESCO-Obiang International Prize for Life Sciences would award $300,000 prizes to scientists who develop innovations that improve living standards in Africa.
