Remember when Sheryl Underwood and Sharon Osbourne got into a heated argument about racism during an episode of “The Talk” in 2021? The conversation led to Osbourne leaving the show shortly after, which caused a rift in their relationship.
During a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on his “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Underwood reflected on her public feud with Osbourne and what she may have done differently.
Let us remind you about what went down. In March 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Markle claimed she and her husband were driven from the royal family because of racism. She specifically recalled a time when she was pregnant, and a member of the royal family came to her with “concerns” about how dark her child’s skin would be when he was born.
As a result, English TV personality Piers Morgan ruthlessly defended the royal family and claimed that Markle was lying about her racism allegations. Despite Morgan’s controversy, Osbourne stood by the media personality, who she considered a friend.
This led to a heated discussion about race during an episode of “The View,” with Underwood and Osbourne particularly arguing back and forth.
The argument was so heated between the two that the daytime talk show went on a month-long hiatus. When it returned, Osbourne was no longer on the show.
When asked how she currently feels about Osbourne, Underwood said, “You don’t sit next to somebody for 10 years and don’t have a feeling for her and her family… I didn’t do anything wrong. Matter of I’m trying to articulate this in a different way. ‘What would you say to people who think that?’”
Underwood then explained why she got emotional during her argument with her co-host, saying, “You know me, Shannon, I’m not crying because someone is yelling at me. I’m crying because I can’t say what I want to say… I represent every Black woman in the world. We cannot be seen as the ‘angry Black woman’ because now you’re messing up somebody else’s job somewhere else.”
Sharpe shared how he relates to Underwood since he and his former “Undisputed” co-host Skip Bayless got into a heated argument on national TV that also resulted in him eventually leaving the show.
