Sherri Shepherd’s ex-husband Lamar Sally is still trying to stick her for her paper when it comes to child support for their son, who was conceived using Sally’s sperm and an egg donor.
Sally and Shepherd were married in 2011, but in 2014, Sally filed for divorce. During the divorce proceedings, Shepherd said she felt that Sally defrauded her, knowing that he was going to file for divorce, but deceiving her into having a child with him so that he could get child support. But in 2015 a Pennsylvania judge officially listed Shepherd as the mother on the baby boy’s birth certificate.
Sally and Shepherd faced off in court over Sally’s request for an increase in child support, but a California judge denied the request, according to People magazine.
“The California judge agreed with Shepherd’s counsel Terry Levich Ross, Esq., and determined that by Sally’s own agreement in two separate legal judgments, New Jersey has exclusive and ongoing jurisdiction over this child support issue and all matters must be dealt with only in that state,” a statement from Shepherd’s rep reads. “The amount of child support Shepherd is currently paying her ex-husband is more than New Jersey has required her to pay, so if Sally wanted to revisit the matter in a New Jersey court he would likely face having his payments reduced substantially.”
The statement continued: “Shepherd now hopes that her ex will stop his frivolous attempts to get more money out of her and will seek gainful employment to take care of his child like any other capable parent.”
Currently, Shepherd is paying Sally, who is a substitute teacher, $4,100 a month for child support. But Sally says that because of a rare blood disorder the toddler has, it’s not enough.
Shepherd’s attorneys contend that Sally is trying to live off of child support, but his attorneys said otherwise.
“Mr. Sally is not living off of the child support. The needs that he has and the payment for this child are significant, and he wants to make sure that given the fact that there’s been a change of circumstances, that Ms. Shepherd not only lives here now, but that she earns significantly more money than she admitted to before, all he’s asking for is that the court base its new support order based on what the true facts are. The only one who’s hiding anything here is Ms. Shepherd,” Sally’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan stated.
After her victory, Shepherd put her Twitter fingers to work (with the help of some mimosas) to air out her ex and his frivolous ways:
More than likely, Sally will take his child support woes back to the state of New Jersey in order for the court there to possibly rule for a modification.
